The Farm Cottage at Chez Le Brun is a peaceful and secluded 18th century detached stone cottage set in the heart of our 200 acre pedigree sheep-farm in the beautiful rolling countryside on the Charente - Limousin borders in Central France.

The Local Area

The medieval market town of Confolens, sitting on the banks of the River Vienne, is only 5kms away with its restaurants, bars, shops and weekly market selling local produce. It is within easy reach of Limoges, famous for its renowned porcelain, Cognac and St Emilion for those who enjoy fine wines and cognacs. Futuroscope, a theme-park based on a futuristic universe, the historic maritime port of La Rochelle famous for it's delicious sea-food lunches and the stunning prehistoric cave-paintings at Lascaux are all easily accessible. We are ideally situated for you to enjoy the delightful countryside of this region. Go walking in our woods and pastures to appreciate the abundance of wild flowers and birds, alternatively you can walk, cycle or for the more energetic jog on the many excellent designated "chemins rural" or bridle-paths established throughout the area. The proximity of the picturesque River Vienne has also made this a popular base for artists.

The Confolentais area has a variety of activities and interests to offer, from bathing lakes with their own beaches, windsurfing and sailing, to the fascinating Romanesque architecture of the churches. It is an area steeped in history, you can follow the route of Richard the Lionheart to the site of his last battle or walk in the footsteps of pilgrims on their way south to Santiago de Compostela. The town of Oradour-sur-Glane with it's tragic history in the Second World War is close by and open to visitors. Confolens itself, is host to an annual International Folk Festival in early August when bands gather from all over the world for nine days of music and fun. There is also a motor-racing circuit at Le Vigeant (a 30 minutes drive) which hosts a series of major car and bikes races throughout the season.

The Charente Region

The Charente region of France is a land of enchantment, with a thousand and one things to discover: prehistoric grottos, Gallo-Roman sites, gothic churches and renowned chateaux. Follow the guides, from Francois I'er to Talleyrand, from Balzac to Vigny, the history of the Charente is a journey through time. A land of contrast and light, enjoy the tranquility of the countryside and the architectural beauty of the ancient towns. Sample the gentle way of life : cruise through the waters of the Charente « the finest stream of my kingdom » according to Henry IV. Do not miss the international folk festival of Confolens, or the vintage car race around the ramparts of Angoulême. A land of tradition and savoir faire. Taste the produce of the land at the tables of local chefs, ending your meal with a glass of Cognac, locally produced and famous throughout the world. Leisure activities in the Charente are centered mainly around 'Tourisme vert' (green tourism) encompassing all the country pursuits: swimming pools and lakes with beaches, tennis, golf, horse riding, climbing, walking and cycling, fishing, canoeing etc.
